Special Kids, Autistic Children and eLearning Initiative Realities…

Our classrooms are stretched to the maximum and yet we must do more to help our slow learners and challenged children. Can we do more with our technologies and eLearning Initiatives to bridge the gaps in our educational system deficiencies? Working with the Online Think Tank these issues come up all the time, as they are real concerns.

One aspect I have previously considered is that Parents of Special Kids and Autistic Children want 1:1 education help and they site that the parents of regular kids are asking for 1:1 for computer training. Recently, there were some huge battles in New Jersey with parents and the PTA which actually made it into a NYT Article. Some top researchers are looking into the new technologies to help with this problem.

One super star psychologist stated that more research was needed with special kids and their self-esteem when using electronic teaching tools, collaborative networks and eLearning Initiatives. She indeed, brings up an interesting subject which I have been discussing with this gentleman about Avatars, 3D, VR eLearning in the UK. Can the avatars in Virtual Reality replace a teacher during the use of technology eLearning tools?

You see, the Public School System does not have the money to do 1:1 helping of autistic children or special kids, and we know they need that. But if computer systems could help them, then maybe that might be a good way to do things? Because the computer once acquired would be able to teach the child without the teacher 1:1 and therefore you might be able to expand your class room from 7-8 to 30 with an assistant without jeopardizing quality.

Right now 30 special kids or even 15 is a huge amount of work and if the teachers are constantly baby sitting nothing worthy is being accomplished. Meanwhile the teacher shortages in the US and the attrition rates [50% first 5-years Cal Teachers Union Study] makes it nearly impossible to bring up the next generation, whether they are special kids, normal learners or even super (human +) types.

We are going to need more eLearning Tools to bridge the gap and teacher shortages and perhaps we need to focus some of this advanced technology into the special learning classrooms too. I certainly hope this article is of interest and that is has propelled thought. The goal is simple; to help you in your quest to be the best in 2007. I was one of these children. For three years I went to special speach classes and later I was in special ed clases.
It is very easy to slip thru the cracks…stand up…be heard.
Make noise..the squeeky wheel gets the grease!

Make sure you elect politicans, who enforce what you believe in.
